The Taste of Local Festival

Connecting Our Community from Field to Fork

More Food! More Fun! More Local than Ever!

What better way to learn about local food
than to experience it firsthand ?

The third-annual Taste of Local Festival is about bringing together farmers, chefs, purveyors and community to celebrate our local harvest and the diversity of great food we have right here in Ventura County. This is field-to-fork at its very best.

Over 60 area chefs, farmers, purveyors, wineries, breweries and distilleries are expected to showcase their culinary expertise.

This year, we’re expanding the event space, adding more food booths and increasing the number or workshops in our Educational Workshops program. The popular Local Homebrew Challenge returns and we’re adding a fun new competition: the Farm-to-Glass Mixology Throwdown. Check out all the great activities we’ve got planned for you listed below.

PRICES. General admission: $45.00 in advance, $55.00 at the door; VIP admission: $65.00 in advance, $75.00 at the door (early admittance, welcome signature cocktail, event gift bag, boxed sample taster, specialty tasting). Tickets are non-refundable. All food and samples are included in the admission price. This is a 21 and older event.

Taste of Local Happenings

Meet the Chefs, Taste their Cuisine

Ventura County is known as one of the top agricultural producing areas in the world. Rich soil, Mediterranean climates, innovative farmers and diverse crops – we’ve got it all! And this also means that we’ve got one of the best cuisine scenes that California has to offer.

Ventura County has an amazing group of top-line chefs, many of whom have helped to set the trend of Locally Sourced. Guests can meet and chat with the chefs and purveyors as you taste their wares and learn from these field-to-fork specialists about the bounty that is Ventura County.

Over 60 area chefs, farmers, purveyors, wineries, breweries and distilleries are expected to showcase their culinary expertise during the Taste of Local Festival. Experience it firsthand!

Local Homebrew Challenge

Once again, Totally Local VC is partnering with Ventura Independent Beer Enthusiasts (VIBE) to present The Homebrew Challenge. Local brew masters will compete for the title of Taste of Local’s Home Brew Grand Champion as voted by guests at the Taste of Local Festival. Each of the top three contestants receives awards and lots of great local prizes.

Come and learn about the process of making beer as you talk directly to the brewers, taste their wares and cast your vote to help us determine our county’s best home brewers.

Are you into home brewing? Think you’ve got what it takes to compete in The Homebrew Challenge ? Well then, tell us about yourself in an email to with Homebrew Challenge in the subject line. Or, better yet, click the button below and we’ll start your email for you!

Farm-to-Glass Mixology Throwdown

Don’t just eat your fruits and veggies. Drink them!

Competing Ventura County bartenders will craft drinks from locally-grown ingredients. Attendees will sip sample-sized cocktails made from local, farm-fresh ingredients and vote for their favorite cocktails. Guests will also receive a chip that is good for one full-sized drink.

Cocktails will be judged on originality, use of ingredients, taste and presentation. Winners will be chosen in two categories: Professional Judging and People’s Choice. The winners will become the Local Mixology-Throwdown Grand Champ.

Educational Workshops

We’ve increased the number of great, educational workshops. Watch this space for more information coming soon!

Great Local Music

Studies show that sound can not only can set a mood but that it also can influence the way we taste food and drink! Often dramatically. Totally Local VC understands this. So, it is only natural that we make sure to always partner with local musicians for each of our events.

Stay tuned as we will release the music lineup for the Taste of Local Festival shortly.

All This and Giving Back, Too

Proceeds from the Taste of Local Festival will benefit the Totally Local VC Agricultural Education Foundation.

Over the past eight years, Totally Local VC has worked as an advisor for agriculture and culinary arts programs at both high school and college levels. Together with area chefs and farmers, we have laid the foundation to empower students in taking the next step in their journeys to achieve their educational and professional goals.

In order to grow and continuously raise the bar on our academic initiatives, we formed the Totally Local VC Agricultural Education Foundation. We depend on the support from community members like you through funds raised from donations, sponsorships and events. With this support, we can expand our programs that prepare students for successful careers in agriculture, food science and the culinary arts. Your contribution is helping to build the agricultural leaders and chefs of tomorrow.

Totally Local VC Agricultural Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

We love olive oil. Is there another oil we reach for as much in cooking, as much for its flavor as its health benefits? Probably not. In Ventura County, we’re lucky to have access to very high quality olive oil—from oils produced by Ventura County growers to a broad selection at specialty retailers. Come learn about this versatile, delicious oil from two local olive oil experts, panelists Alan Davis of We Olive Ventura and We Olive & Wine Bar Thousand Oaks, and Alice Asquith of Ojai Olive Oil Company. They’ll talk about the process from olive to oil and also how to know if the olive oil on your shelf is pure extra-virgin olive oil and really fresh. This discussion hosted and led by Sarene Wallace of Edible Ojai & Ventura County magazine.

HOST: Ojai Permaculture on behalf of Earth Journeys and NuMundo

PRESENTERS: Bryan Arturo and Shayna Gladstone, co-founders of NuMundo and Earth Journeys

The solutions to climate change are practical and can be seen and experienced all around Southern California. Streams are being brought back to life, carbon is being sequestered, soil is being restored and humans are living in villages, having their needs met while living in balance with nature. These Sustainable Living Centers are available to educate city planners, leaders and anyone who wants to be part of the solution to protect our water and food sources from drying up. In this talk we will be sharing information about these solutions and where you can go to learn about them in our region.
